Chris Evans isn’t done with the MCU just yet. TheWrap is reporting that he has joined the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. Evans last appeared for Marvel in Deadpool & Wolverine, but not as Captain America Steve Rogers, but as his former role of Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch.
It’s unclear what Evans will be doing in Avengers: Doomsday. The last time we saw Steve Rogers it was in Avengers: Endgame as he passed the shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. Evans had been eager to move on from the MCU to pursue other acting opportunities. He can be seen in theaters right now in Red One.
Rumors have swirled for months about Evans’ possible return for Doomsday, and the actor has heard them and kept the door open.
Given that Robert Downey Jr. just agreed to return as Doctor Doom, it feels like Marvel Studios is trying to get the old gang back together again. But for that same reason, it’s at least a possibility that Evans is coming back to play someone other than Steve Rogers. The Multiverse allows for a lot of possibilities to emerge.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on May 1st 2026. That will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027.
