If there’s a major studio franchise out there, Idris Elba has probably been a part of it. The actor has starred in his share of them: Marvel’s Thor and Avengers movies, Alien spinoff Prometheus, The Dark Tower, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Hobbs & Shaw, The Suicide Squad, Sonic the Hedgehog , you name it. And now he can add Masters of the Universe to his extensive resume.
Mattel Films has announced that Elba has joined their live-action Masters of the Universe movie. He’ll take on the role of Duncan, who He-Man fans will recognize as Man-At-Arms. In the 1980s cartoon, Duncan is the father-father to Prince Adam aka He-Man, adoptive father to Teela, and leader of the Royal Guard.
Elba joins Nicholas Galitzine who plays He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Alison Brie as Evil Lyn.
Directed by Travis Knight and penned by Chris Butler, the film centers on He-Man as he must recover his lost Power Sword and defend Eternia from Skeletor’s evil.
Masters of the Universe opens in theaters on June 25th 2026.
