The Synopsis for ‘The Fantastic Four: The First Steps’ Promises Galactus, Personal Stakes and Retro-Future Vibe

The first family of Marvel is FINALLY making their MCU debut and wow is it shaping up to be a big swing. We have the full plot synopsis for The Fantastic Four: The First Steps and, while there are no major surprises, my vibe-o-meter has started pinging off the charts.

You see, in today’s world presenting a superhero family in the bright and shiny veneer of something like The Jetsons just sounds like a recipe for disaster….but this is the MCU. The home of big swings and bigger rewards. I’ve often said that, after they nailed Guardians of the Galaxy that there was nothing I would put past them and I meant it. Of course, there is another factor at play, these wonderful dystopian days in which we live. Here’s the thing, people don’t ACTUALLY like to see their world reflected on scene. They certainly like to recognize and relate but history has shown that in more uncertain times people turn to more certain and uplifting faire. Make no mistake, this isn’t going to be a version of Leave it to Beaver starring Mr. Fantastic. Galactus and the Silver Surfer both (awesomely) remove that from the equation. I just have a feeling that, when things are good, they will be Disney World in the springtime good.

Here’s the full synopsis, what do you think? Am I off base?

Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”
