While DC’s Lanterns series follows two members of the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps, the show is expected to largely be an Earthbound crime thriller. That means there are non-superhero roles to be filled, and we’ve just learned that Kelly Macdonald has scored one of them.
Variety reports Macdonald has landed a supporting role in Lanterns, the DC Studios/HBO series that will star Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Macondald will play Sheriff Kerry, “a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface.”
Macdonald has kept plenty busy since her debut film role in Trainspotting almost 30 years ago. She’s appeared in a Harry Potter film, No Country for Old Men, voiced the lead character in Brave, and can be seen right now in the horror comedy The Radleys. A personal favorite of mine, Macdonald also starred alongside Irrfan Khan in Puzzle, his final English-language film before his death. I love that movie dearly. On the TV side, she was a main player on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, so the network knows how good she is.
Lanterns is likely to arrive in 2026.
