‘Tomb Raider’: Sophie Turner And Lucy Boynton Eyed For Lara Croft Role In Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Series

The role of Lara Croft can make a career, just ask Angelina Jolie. And that has made Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s upcoming Tomb Raider series for Prime Video a hot gig for young actresses in Hollywood. According to Deadline, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner and Bohemian Rhapsody‘s Lucy Boynton are testing for the role.

The report says the Tomb Raider casting process has been shrouded in mystery, making it difficult to ascertain who else could be up for the job. That said, the site says others on the wish list such as Mackenzie Davis (See No Evil) and Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine) are not testing for it.

Whoever lands the Lara Croft part will join Jolie and Alicia Vikander as actresses who have played the video game icon in live-action films. Hayley Atwell has voiced the heroic treasure seeker in a Netflix animated series released earlier this month and has been renewed for season two.

Waller-Bridge’s series was described as “epic” and “globe-trotting” by Jen Salke, Head of Amazon & MGM Studios.

“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all,” Waller-Bridge said.

Turner is best known for her Emmy-nominated role as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones. She also played Jean Grey in Fox’s X-Men movies and currently stars in the British crime drama series Joan. Boynton was recently seen in the Ned Benson rom-com The Greatest Hits.
