Vicky Jenson co-directed two of the biggest animated movies of the 2000s: Shrek and Shark Tale, both huge hits for Dreamworks. She hasn’t helmed a film since 2009’s Alexis Bledel comedy, Post Grad, but has returned with the animated fairy tale, Spellbound, which hits Netflix this November.
As seen in the new trailer for Spellbound, the film is set in a realm of magic and follows a princess who must break the spell that has turned her parents into monsters. Well, every kid thinks of their parents as monsters at some point, but in this case it’s literal.
The star-studded voice cast is led by Rachel Zegler, plus John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Tituss Burgess, Nathan Lane, Javier Bardem, and Nicole Kidman. Producers on the film include former Pixar chief and Toy Story director John Lasseter, and Beauty and the Beast writer Linda Woolverton. Alan Menken composed an original score, as well. Lauren Hynek & Elizabeth Martin and Julia Miranda co-wrote the script.
