‘Song Sung Blue’: Hugh Jackman And Kate Hudson To Star In Craig Brewer’s Musical About A Neil Diamond Tribute Band

We already know Hugh Jackman can do it all. He an act, he can dance, he can gut a Deadpool like a fish, and he can sing. The Greatest Showman star will get a chance to do…well, at least one of those things in Song Sung Blue, a new film he’ll be starring in alongside Kate Hudson.

Jackman and Hudson will team-up for Song Sung Blue, to be written and directed by Hustle & Flow‘s Craig Brewer. The Focus Features musical tells the true story of two down ‘n out musicians who follow their dreams and form the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder.  Their story became the subject of a 2008 documentary by Greg Kohs.

The film’s title gets its name from Diamond’s 1972 hit song.

Also in the cast are Michael Imperioli, Fisher Stevens, Jim Belushi, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, and Hudson Hilbert Hensley.

Here’s the synopsis: Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians (Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson) form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams.

Brewer is best known for his three musical films, Hustle & Flow, Footloose, and  Black Snake Moan.  He also directed Eddie Murphy in Dolemite Is My Name and Coming 2 America.

Hudson just released her first album in May, so this is something of a continuation of her move into music. She also starred in the musical film Nine in which she sings “Cinema Italiano” (admittedly, a favorite), and led pop star Sia’s directorial debut, Music.
