Henry Cavill Is Go For Amazon’s Live-Action ‘Voltron’ Movie

The interlocks are activated, dyna-therms are connected, the infra-cells are up, and the mega-thrusters are go! The long-awaited Voltron movie at Amazon MGM is ramping up in a major way as Deadline reports Henry Cavill is joining in a lead role! So which lion do we think he’ll be piloting?

Cavill joins the previously cast newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye in the live-action Voltron movie. Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber is behind the camera, working from a script he co-wrote with Ellen Shanman. So far there are no plot details. We can assume it’ll follow the storyline of a season from the classic 1980s cartoon. The first season is the most popular, and centered on the Lion Force Five, a team of space explorers in mechanized lions that combine to form the giant mech, Voltron. The second season, Vehicle Team Voltron, followed a team in weaponized vehicles.

Between Voltron and the Masters of the Universe movie they’re developing, Amazon MGM is trying to corner the market on nostalgic 1980s IP. We’ll see if it pays off for them, and also who else might hop into the lion pilot seat.

Add Voltron to a busy slate for Cavill, which includes the Highlander reboot and Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey.
