2018’s heist thriller Den of Thieves was an unexpected hit, largely due to its “cool” cast of guys like Gerard Butler, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Pablo Schreiber, and 50 Cent. We’re not talking a modern genre classic here or anything, but it had enough fans to warrant a sequel, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, with Butler, Jackson, and writer/director Christian Gudegast all coming back for one more score.
The sequel picks up where Den of Thieves left off, with Jackson’s character Donnie in Europe plotting the next big heist. Butler’s detective “Big Nick” O’Brien is hot on his trail, though, and this time he wants in.
The star power got dialed down a notch for this one. Butler and Jackson are the two biggest names, joined by Michael Bipsing, Salvatore Esposito, Orli Shuka, Evin Ahmad, Cristian Solimeno. Nazmiye Oral, Yasen Zates Atour, Giuseppe Schillaci, Dino Kelly, Rich Verhoeven, and Velibor Topic.
Before Den of Thieves, Gudegast worked with Butler on London Has Fallen. He also wrote for Vin Diesel in A Man of Apart. In short, he makes mid-budget star-powered action movies and has found pretty decent success.
SYNOPSIS: In DEN OF THIEVES: PANTERA, Big Nick (Butler) is back on the hunt in Europe and closing in on Donnie (Jackson), who is embroiled in the treacherous and unpredictable world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange.
Lionsgate will release Den of Thieves: Pantera in theaters on January 10th 2025.
