‘Heretic’ Trailer: Hugh Grant Gets Creepy In A24’s New Religious Horror

There’s some good news about A24’s new trailer for Heretic, the religious horror flick starring a very creepy Hugh Grant. Unlike the first bit of footage released a few weeks ago, this one manages to avoid spoilers, which is good because this looks like a movie with a lot of twists and turns. Based on the early praise out of TIFF (quoted generously in this trailer), this is one that people are going to want to know as little about as possible.

Written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place, 65), Heretic stars Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as Mormon missionaries spreading the word door-to-door. Grant, looking like an old librarian in his little glasses, is a man who welcomes them into his home, but he’s not the least bit interested in being converted. His plans are far more sinister than that.

Thatcher is probably best known for her roles in The Book of Boba Fett and Yellowjackets, while East starred in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans.

Beck and Woods have yet to fully capitalize on the success they found with A Quiet Place, but they might’ve found it with Heretic. Horror seems to be in their wheelhouse.

SYNOPSIS: Two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

A24 will release Heretic in theaters on November 8th, having just moved it forward a week.
