There wasn’t a single mention of Kang during Marvel Studio’s SDCC panel last weekend, and thus there wasn’t a single mention of Jonathan Majors. That’s not surprising; ever since his arrest for domestic assault, Majors was on the way out and that meant no longer starring in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The film underwent a lot of changes, but the biggest was revealed when Robert Downey Jr. took over the role of Doctor Doom in the newly-titled Avengers: Doomsday.
So how does Majors feel about Kang being pushed aside for Doctor Doom? TMZ shoved a mic in his face and this is what he had to say about it…
“Heartbroken! Come on, of course!” said Majors. “I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked though.”
Of course Majors is disappointed about losing his role as the big bad of the Multiverse Saga, but those are the breaks when you get convicted of crimes. A bigger question is what else is being altered for the film? How will they explain Kang’s absence? Will they kill him off-screen like they did to Vin Diesel’s XXX? Or will they just claim Loki season two makes Kang irrelevant?
Majors will probably never be in the MCU again but it would be silly to think his career is over. He’s too young and too talented for this to last forever. Someone will eventually release his critically-acclaimed film Magazine Dreams. Some producer will cast him in a role that will start an eventual comeback. It might be a while, but it will happen.
Avengers: Doomsday opens on May 1st 2026.
