Veteran filmmaker Edward Berger struck gold with All Quiet On the Western Front, earning nine Academy Award nominations and winning four. That kind of success casts a big shadow, and Berger is following it up with an adaptation of Robert Harris’ papal thriller, Conclave, featuring an all-star cast of dramatic powerhouses.
Starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, Isabella Rossellini, and John Lithgow, the story takes place in the wake of the Pope’s death and a Cardinal tasked with naming his successor. But long-held secrets lead to a mystery that must be solved first.
Conclave has a script by Peter Staughan, known for writing on Our Brand is Crisis, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and Frank.
SYNOPSIS: From director Edward Berger, CONCLAVE follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events – selecting a new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence finds himself at the center of a conspiracy and discovers a secret that could shake the very foundation of The Church.
Focus Features will release Conclave into theaters on November 1st.
