Warner Bros. is showing a lot of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and it’s easy to see why. Michael Keaton’s role as the rude, hilarious demon is iconic, but it’s been more than 30 years and nostalgia sequels have been hit-or-miss recently. With the film set to debut at the Venice Film Festival, we’ll know pretty soon if the long wait was worth it.
Tim Burton returns to direct Beetlejuice Beetlejuice from a script by Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Miller. Keaton isn’t the only actor from the original coming back, as he’ll be joined by Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz. New to the horror-comedy franchise are Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, Danny DeVito, and Burn Gorman.
And what would a Beetlejuice movie be without composer Danny Elfman? Of course he’s back, too. I don’t think Burton or Keaton would without him.
SYNOPSIS: After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic, and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times, and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
Warner Bros. opens Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in theaters on September 6th.
