‘Despicable Me 4’ Trailer: The Minions Get Mega While Gru’s Son Goes Wild

Here we are with the sixth film in the nearly $5 billion-dollar Despicable Me franchise, and I can’t tell you what happened in any of them. Didn’t they go back in time once? Or was that one of the Minions spinoffs? Eh, it doesn’t matter. These movies are like printing money, and Despicable Me 4 will be no different when it arrives this summer. Illumination will never stop making these movies and who can blame them?

So what happens in this latest sequel? Well, the Minions get turned into MEGA MINIONS!!! Oh, and Gru has a son, Gru Jr. who is driving his parents nuts. Oh, and there’s a new villain to fight, of course. Remember when Gru was a bad guy? Seems like ages ago.

Steve Carell returns as the voice of Gru, with Kristen Wiig back as his wife, Lucy, plus Will Ferrell who plays the new baddie, Maxime Le Mal.

Here’s the synopsis: Following the 2022 summer blockbuster phenomenon of Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru, which earned almost $1 billion worldwide, the biggest global animated franchise in history now begins a new chapter as Gru (Oscar® nominee Steve Carrell) and Lucy (Oscar® nominee Kristen Wiig) and their girls —Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan)—welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad. Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Emmy winner Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Emmy nominee Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run.

Also in the voice cast are Joey King, Sofia Vergara, and Steve Coogan.

Despicable Me 4 opens in theaters on July 3rd.
