Following his role in the acclaimed wrestling drama The Iron Claw, Jeremy Allen White will be tied up for a while on seasons 3 and 4 of The Bear (likely the final seasons), which are shooting back-to-back. But after that, White has already landed what sounds like a doozy of a project, as it involves A24, the legendary Bruce Springsteen, and his classic ’70s album Nebraska.
According to Deadline, White will star as Bruce Springsteen in an adaptation of the Warren Zanes book Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska. The deeply personal album Nebraska is a raw, unfiltered expression of Springsteen in the 1970s. Recorded alone in his bedroom on a four-track recorder, it was not initialliy meant to be released to the public. But Springsteen changed his mind, and the rest is music history.
The film will be produced by ex-Netflix exec Scott Stuber, but what’s interesting is the director. Scott Cooper, who previously directed the soulful country music drama Crazy Heart, the film that led Jeff Bridges to an Oscar win for Best Actor. Sounds like a perfect fit. Cooper last directed his muse Christian Bale in The Pale Blue Eye in 2022.
Of course, Springsteen and his manager are involved with the project, as well.
If it’s true that The Bear is closing up shop after season four, then this could be one Hell of a launch to White’s full-time big-screen career.
