Fans of Bethesda’s Fallout video games are understandably excited for Amazon’s new Prime Video series. Fortunately, they won’t have to wait long as it hits the streamer next month, with Jonathan Nolan directing the first three episodes and exec-producing with Lisa Joy. The duo found success with HBO’s Westworld before this.
Here’s the synopsis: Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them.
In the new trailer we see star Ella Purnell as Lucy, an optimistic, patriotic Vault Dweller who ventures to the dangerous surface world to find her missing father. Also in the cast are Walton Goggins as The Ghoul, Aaron Moten as Maximus, plus Moisés Arias, Kyle MacLachlan, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan, and Xelia Mendes-Jones.
Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner serve as executive producers, writers, and co-showrunners. It looks like they’ve designed a show that will be faithful to the games and exactly what the fans have been asking for.
Prime Video is quickly becoming the go-to streamer for massive, big-budget sci-fi/fantasy franchises. Fallout debuts on April 11th.
