The two strikes going on in Hollywood continue to create havoc for studio releases, many of which have been pushed to 2024. And now you can add Prime Video’s anticipated Mr. & Mrs. Smith series to that list, based on Doug Liman’s hit 2005 film that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
This series version will feature Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as spies who are undercover posing as a married couple. It gets pretty complicated, to say the least.
Here’s the synopsis: Meet the Smiths: Two strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their identities to be thrown together as partners — in espionage and in marriage. Matched by a mysterious agency, each episode follows them on a new mission and new milestone in their relationship. When the cracks begin to show through, they must fight to stay together. Because in this marriage, divorce is not an option.
Like a few others, Glover’s current deal with Amazon has been suspended while the strikes are ongoing. That’s not uncommon. Glover is still aboard this series as star and exec-producer, continuing his working relationship with Amazon, who is moving the series to reduce the impact of a lack of projects in production.
So when Glover and Erskine are finally seen trading marriage vows and bullets, it’ll be early in 2024. [THR]
