Holy crap, The Marvels looks like the most fun Marvel has been in a long time! Set to the sounds of The Beastie Boys, the first trailer for what began as a Captain Marvel sequel looks like an enjoyable Freaky Friday-esque switcheroo comedy, with lots of cosmic superpowers, of course.
Brie Larson returns as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, but she’s far from alone. The entire “Marvel” family is there, too, with Teyonah Parris back as Danvers’ niece, Monica Rambeau aka Spectrum/Quantum/Pulsar/whatever, and young Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan.
As seen in the trailer, the thrust of the story is the confusing nature of their powers, which has caused the women to swap places every time one of them uses those abilities. If you recall the conclusion of Ms. Marvel, it saw Captain Marvel transported into Kamala’s room, which means Kamala is probably somewhere dangerous in the deepest reaches of space.
The film has some other things to address, as well. Danvers was introduced as someone who was going to be a major player in the MCU, but that hasn’t really happened. This will be an attempt to fix that. Kamala will be thrust into the big screen spotlight for the first time, as well. And there’s also lingering “family” issues between Carol and Monica that need to be addressed.
Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels opens in theaters on November 10th.
Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as “The Marvels.”
