‘Stranger Things’ Animated Series On The Way In Style Of Saturday Morning Cartoons

Stranger Things is due to wind down with the upcoming fifth season, but Netflix is letting go of the franchise so easily. They’ve already enlisted the Duffer Brothers on a new project set in that universe, and Deadline says it’ll be an animated series.

A Stranger Things animated series is in the works at Netflix, with the Duffers as exec-producers along with Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Flying Bark Productions.  The Duffers and Levy are co-creators of the original show so it makes sense they’d continue to be involved with every project spinning out of it.

Here’s what the Duffers had to say about the news: “We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling. We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues.”

That sounds like the plan is to make a show that will look, in terms of animation, like the classic Saturday morning cartoons of the ’80s, which could be pretty cool. I would expect the formatting would be similar, too. We could see this look more like an episode of Scooby-Doo than anything else.
