Daisy Ridley Returning As Rey To Build A New Jedi Order In Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s ‘Star Wars’ Film

There’s been a ton of attention on the upcoming Star Wars movie from Ms. Marvel director  Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and for good reason. With films by Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins canceled and one by Taika Waititi in flux, hers was the only one that seemed to be going anywhere. Well, that film just got a gigantic update.

Straight out of Star Wars Celebration and the Lucasfilm presentation by Kathleen Kennedy, comes the news that Daisy Ridley is set to return as Rey Skywalker in Obaid-Chinoy’s Star Wars movie. The story will take place after events in The Rise of Skywalker, and find Rey building a new Jedi Order.

Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) recently began work on a new script, replacing Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson.

This looks to be the project that will slide right into the open December 19th 2025 slot that Lucasfilm has been holding, but it all depends on how production progresses.

Ridley’s return as Rey is surprising. Like most of her co-stars from the most recent, polarizing trilogy, Ridley has not sounded enthusiastic about coming back for more, at least not on the big screen. She has stayed involved, notably voicing Rey for seven episodes of the Star Wars Forces of Destiny series.
