The role of Dracula has been performed by many actors in many different kinds of films, and each brings their own style to it. Suffice it to say, Nicolas Cage in the upcoming horror-comedy Renfield will be very different from Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. And based on what we’ve been seeing in trailers, Cage’s version is one that simply can’t be missed.
Cage is comically theatrical and over-the-top as Dracula, opposite Nicholas Hoult as his beleaguered manservant Renfield. The film centers on Renfield, who eats bugs and has been promised immortality, who decides to fight back against his master’s control.
The film also stars Awkafina, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, and Brandon Scott Jones. Chris McKay, known for The Lego Batman Movie and The Tomorrow War, is behind the camera.
Renfield opens in theaters on April 14th.
In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Emmy nominee Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men franchise) stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.
