What’s better than getting a new series starring Rachel Weisz? When it’s actually a dual-role for the acclaimed actress. And what’s more, the dual roles are part of a series remake of David Cronenberg’s 1988 film, Dead Ringers, originally made famous by Jeremy Irons.
Weisz takes on the roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle in the new Dead Ringers series, joined by co-stars Britne Oldford, Poppy Liu, Michael Chernus, Jennifer Ehle, and Emily Meade.
While Cronenberg isn’t involved, the six-episode miniseries does have filmmakers Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body), Karena Evans (P-Valley), and Lauren Wolkstein (A Friend of the Family) directing the episodes.
Here’s the synopsis: “A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons, Dead Ringers will feature Rachel Weisz playing the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.”
Dead Ringers will hit Prime Video on April 21st.
