‘Kandahar’ Trailer: Gerard Butler Is Behind Enemy Lines In New CIA Thriller

Gerard Butler may have found HIS director with Ric Roman Waugh. The duo have teamed up for what I think are the actor’s two best recent films, Greenland and Angel Has Fallen. This bodes extremely well for Butler’s latest action flick, Kandahar, which Waugh has also directed.

The premise is pretty basic and suited to Butler’s skills. He plays a CIA agent in Afghanistan who must fight his way out of hostile territory along with his Afghan translator.

I’ll just say this; it looks a helluva lot better than Plane. I know ya’ll dug it but I didn’t.

The film also stars Navid Negahban, Ali Fazal, Travis Fimmel, and Elnaaz Norouzi. Waugh joined Mitchell LaFortune in co-writing the script, as well. Waugh is an underrated filmmaker in my book, with some of his earlier films such as Snitch and Shot Caller vastly underseen.

Kandahar hits theaters on May 26th. Then look out for Butler and Waugh’s next collabs on Night Has Fallen and Greenland: Migration!

In KANDAHAR, Tom Harris, an undercover CIA operative, is stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. After his mission is exposed, he must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator, to an extraction point in Kandahar, all whilst avoiding elite enemy forces and foreign spies tasked with hunting them down.
