There’s no better director out there at keeping secrets than M. Night Shyamalan. He always keeps the plot of his films, sometimes even the title if it gives too much away, under wraps until the moment he’s ready to reveal them. We’ve known his upcoming thriller would be titled Knock At the Cabin, but those were all of the details we had other than casting. And now thanks to author Paul Tremblay we at least know the source material Shyamalan will be drawing from.
Tremblay revealed during a CNBC interview that Shyamalan’s Knock At the Cabin is actually an adaptation of his 2018 novel, The Cabin at the End of the World. The Bram Stoker Award-winning book centers on a couple and their adopted daughter on vacation in a secluded New Hampshire cabin. Their vacation is disrupted by four invaders who take them hostage and say one of them must die to prevent the coming apocalypse.
So far the casting includes Dave Bautista, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, and Shyamalan’s Servant star Rupert Grint. It sounds like there are more roles to be filled.
Shyamalan’s most recent film, Old, was an adaptation of a graphic novel, so it’s interesting that he has steered away from original content. Then again, he’s had a career resurgence so why mess around with what’s working?
Knock At the Cabin opens on February 3rd 2023.
