Nobody likes that feeling of being watched. It makes you feel self-conscious and just plain creeped out. But imagine that feeling while in a new, unfamiliar place, surrounded by people you don’t know. That’s what Maika Monroe (At Any Price, It Follows) is going through in the new thriller, Watcher, which debuted at Sundance earlier this year.
Monroe stars alongside Karl Glusman and Burn Gorman in the film, about a lonely young woman recently moved to Romania with her husband. When she notices that her neighbor seems to be staring at her, and later that she is being followed.
If it’s Burn Gorman staring at her she has reason to be upset. That dude’s creepy as fuck.
The film is directed and co-written by Chloe Okuno, who had a segment in V/H/S/94. This marks her feature solo debut.
Watcher opens in theaters on June 3rd.
In WATCHER, Julia (Maika Monroe) joins her husband (Karl Glusman) when he relocates to his family’s native Romania for a new job. Having recently abandoned her acting career, she finds herself frequently alone and unoccupied. One night, people-watching from her picture window, she spots a vague figure in an adjacent building, who seems to be looking back at her. Soon after, while alone at a local movie theater, Julia’s sense of being watched intensifies, and she becomes certain she’s being followed — could it be the same unknown neighbor? Meanwhile, a serial killer known as The Spider stalks the city.
