In the world of big business, fraud happens all of the time. Fudge a number here, exaggerate a claim there; it usually slips by or is intentionally overlooked. But in the case of Elizabeth Holmes, the rise and fall of her medical company Theranos was epic as she sought fame and riches by pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes.
Hulu miniseries The Dropout stars Amanda Seyfried (originally Kate McKinnon) as Elizabeth Holmes, CEO of Theranos and the youngest female self-made billionaire in history. Her company soared in valuation after claims it had revolutionized blood testing, but claims of fraud eventually followed. Lost actor Naveen Andrews plays Sunny Bulwani, her Theranos COO and partner in the scheme.
Also in the cast are William H. Macy, Laurie Metcalf, Elizabeth Marvel, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, and Stephen Fry. Michael Gill, Michael Ironside, Bill Irwin, and Josh Pais. Michael Showalter, known for The Big Sick and Wet Hot American Summer, is a director and exec-producer.
Hulu will premiere the first three episodes of The Dropout on March 3rd.
