Those of you who may not have been around in the ’90s missed out on the whole sex tape craze. For a while, it seemed like every hot ‘n horny celebrity was getting hemmed up in a sex tape scandal of some kind, and the most famous duo ever caught was Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson.
Hulu’s series Pam & Tommy goes back to the ’90s when a sex tape would make earth-shattering headlines, breaking all of the rules when it comes to the personal privacy of celebrities. The intimate lives of Pamela Anderson, then the red-hot Baywatch actress and model, and Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, were displayed for all of the world to see on the wild and untamed Internet.
Also set to make some headlines? The casting of Sebastian Stan as Tommy Lee and Lily James as Pamela Anderson. Also in the cast are Seth Rogen, Nick Offerman, Taylor Schilling, Andrew Dice Clay, Pepi Sonuga, Spenser Granese, and Mozhan Marnò. Behind the camera is Craig Gillespie, known for directing Cruella and I, Tonya, which I feel this miniseries shares some tonal similarities.
Pam & Tommy hits Hulu beginning February 2nd.
Set in the Wild West early days of the Internet, “Pam & Tommy” is based on the incredible true story of the Pamela Anderson (Lily James) and Tommy Lee (Sebastian Stan) sex tape. Stolen from the couple’s home by a disgruntled contractor (Seth Rogen), the video went from underground bootleg-VHS curiosity to full-blown global sensation when it hit the Web in 1997. A love story, crime caper and cautionary tale rolled into one, the eight-part original limited series explores the intersection of privacy, technology and celebrity, tracing the origins of our current Reality TV Era to a stolen tape seen by millions but meant to have an audience of just two.
