For horror fans, there’s maybe no more exciting voice in the genre than Hereditary and Midsommar director Ari Aster. Any project he undertakes is worth paying attention to, but add Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix into the mix and the expectation grows to meteoric proportions.
Deadline reports Phoenix will star in Disappointment Blvd, the latest film from Aster that’s set up at A24. Details are few, but the film reportedly is “an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.”
That doesn’t sound much like a horror, does it? Then again, who knows what to expect from Aster at this point. There had been rumors he and Phoenix were teaming up for a four-hour “nightmare comedy” Beau is Afraid, based on his own short film. That no longer appears to be the case, or maybe the rumors were just mixed up.
Phoenix is said to begin work on Disappointment Blvd before he jumps into Ridley Scott’s Napoleon epic, Kitbag, so perhaps we’ll see it in 2022?
