When we were kids we played a modified version of Hide-and-Seek called Flashlight Tag. Basically, when the night was at its darkest, one person had the entire neighborhood in which to stay hidden until daylight, while the seekers had flashlights to try and flush him out. It usually devolved into mischief before the night was through, but that’s nothing compared to the extremes the game is taken in the red band trailer for Ready Or Not, which looks a million times crazier than Game Night and Tag.
Leading the way is Samara Weaving, who was recently cast as one of the daughters in Bill & Ted 3. She plays a young bride who has married into a board game empire. Little does she know, there’s a tradition that finds new members of the game thrust into a deadly game of Hide-and-Seek, in which the only goal is to survive until morning.
The film also stars Andie MacDowell, Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, and Henry Czerny with Southbound duo Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin directing.
Ready Or Not opens August 23rd, and I smell a sleeper hit for the end of summer.
