Adaptation sources for film and television is a funny thing. Seems like only yesterday that only source novels were acceptable, don’t you dare adapt a comic book or graphic novel. Fast forward to 2021 and we have WeCrashed an upcoming Apple+ series about the fall of WeWork, adapted from the Wondery podcast of the same name. I’m not knocking it, narrative and investigative podcasts have crossed into amazing territory and Wondery is one of the leaders in that field. Admittedly I don’t know much about the WeWork story, other then that it’s initial IPO was the highest in history (I think?) and that it didn’t work out so well in the end. The one line description, which states: “following the greed-filled rise and inevitable fall of WeWork, one of the world’s most valuable startups, and the narcissists whose chaotic love made it all possible”, coupled with today’s casting news, makes me truly happy that we are getting this series. Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto have signed on to star as, what I can only assume, are the referenced narcissists. Yes, both are amazing actors, no question there, but more importantly both have something about them that hints toward a propensity to go Sid and Nancy. If the showrunners REALLY let them chew some scenery we may be in store for something truly special.
