The Book of Boba Fett is coming. Following the Internet-destroying finale of The Mandalorian‘s second season, and the announcement of a new spinoff series centered on the fan-favorite bounty hunter, Jon Favreau did the rounds this morning to explain a few things and confirm some others.
While appearing on Good Morning America, Favreau talked about The Book of Boba Fett, and whether this signaled the end of The Mandalorian, which seemed to have wrapped-up Mando and Grogu’s story. Well, no. Not only will there be a third season, but it will begin production shortly after the Boba Fett series is completed, which falls in line with what we’ve heard previously. The Book of Boba Fett opens in December 2021, and the official logo has been revealed.

Lucasfilm then dropped a press release of their own, confirming that Robert Rodriguez will join Favreau and Filoni on The Book of Boba Fett as an exec-producer. Rodriguez directed the Mandalorian episode that reintroduced Fett, but he wasn’t originally part of the plan. So that’s sorta interesting because it means he made one Hell of an impression. Surely, this means he will also be directing episodes, as well. Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen are reprising their roles on the series, which looks like it will deal with the criminal underworld left behind by Jabba the Hutt.

The Book of Boba Fett will be set within the timeline of The Mandalorian and star Temuera Morrison as the titular bounty hunter, along with Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. Robert Rodriguez — who directed Chapter 14 of The Mandalorian, a thrilling installment that reintroduced Boba Fett to the Star Wars galaxy — joins Favreau and Dave Filoni as executive producer.
Boba Fett made his big-screen debut in 1980’s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, becoming an instant fan favorite thanks to his visually arresting armor and cool demeanor. Jeremy Bulloch, the original actor inside the armor, passed away last week — but his legacy, including all he brought to Boba Fett, goes on. The Book of Boba Fett will carry that legacy forward.
