Quarterly meetings with investors, even those by Disney, aren’t the sort of thing anybody really likes to cover. But then there are those times when it can be worth it, because it’s during those earnings calls that major news is broken. In the case of Disney, who have been putting an increased focused on Disney+ streaming of late, there are reportedly some huge announcements about to drop, and they involve Marvel, Star Wars, and more.
Deadline reports that Disney’s upcoming investor call on December 10th could make some serious waves. First of all, recent reports of a Disney+ release for live-action films including Cruella, Pinocchio, plus Peter Pan & Wendy could be made official. If so, it would be another tough shot for theaters to take, but they’ve known Disney was going this route for a while now.
What’s going to get everyone’s attention is speculation of a new slate of Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar projects. These wouldn’t just be for Disney+, but for the big screen. Just knowing that plans for future theatrical releases should give fans, and theater exhibitors, something to get excited about.
But what does this any of this mean? Will we get a formal announcement of Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie? And what about Rian Johnson’s trilogy? Will it turn out to be the same one produced by Marvel’s Kevin Feige? What’s Feige got up his sleeve on the superhero side of things? Perhaps a formal date announcement for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Or something that has been kept secret?
