As if we needed one more reason to hate 2020, this is now the first year in a decade that won’t have a single Marvel Studios production. While we had been hoping for a December debut for WandaVision, the series will now arrive on January 15th 2021.
Of course, the reason fans expected a December release was because of Disney who had teased it for the end of the year. But this new date actually makes more sense. Marvel is one of the big drivers of subscriptions and what better way to start the year than with a new MCU series that ties into many of the upcoming films? Besides, The Mandalorian and Pixar’s Soul will be taking up enough room on Disney+ for the next few weeks.
This is the first Marvel Studios series, soon to be followed by Falcon & the Winter Soldier, which also has yet to be dated. But we can assume it’ll be after WandaVision completes its six-episode run. And then after that, we still have Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Eternals, Spider-Man 3 and possibly a Loki series arriving in 2021. If there’s such a thing as too much Marvel we’re going to find out soon enough.
