Other than Iron Man, no character has been as instrumental shaping events in the MCU than Nick Fury. The Samuel L. Jackson version of the SHIELD leader began piecing the Avengers together way back in 2008, but he hasn’t been seen much in recent years. While he did re-emerge at the end of Spider-Man: Far from Home, in outer space hanging with the Skrulls, Fury is coming back on a more permanent basis as part of a new Disney+ series.
Variety reports Jackson will reprise the Nick Fury role in an upcoming Disney+ series. Jackson is expected to star, but we don’t know if this is necessarily a show all about him, or if he’s part of another character’s story. Developing the show as writer and exec-producer is Kyle Bradstreet, best known for his work on Mr. Robot and Berlin Station.
Where this series will pick up is unclear. And since the real Fury is in space with an imposter posing as him on Earth, will this even be the real Nick Fury that we’re getting? Somehow that storyline is going to need moving forward, and I’m guessing that will happen on the big screen as a Secret Invasion-style event.
Hopefully we’ll be getting more details on this soon, but who can really complain about getting more of Samuel L. Jackson in the MCU? Certainly not me.
