Well, Disney has pulled the trigger. For a few days we’ve been waiting for them to officially move Black Widow off of its November 6th date, and now it’s happened. You’re going to be waiting pretty deep into 2021 before the next big Marvel movie arrives.
Black Widow will now open on May 7th 2021, which is more than a year after its original May 1st 2020 date. And of course, everything Marvel Studios has coming up is moving right along with it. Eternals now heads to November 5th 2021, followed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings which heads to July 9th 2021. Expect all of the other Phase 4 films to be adjusted soon, too.
Looking outside of the Marvel Studios wing, Disney has sent Kenneth Branagh’s Death On the Nile downstream to December 18th 2020; Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story moves a full year to December 10th 2021; and Deep Water with Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas heads to August 13th 2021.
What isn’t going anywhere? Pixar’s Soul, which will keep its November 20th slot opposite No Time to Die. Interesting, since a move to Disney+ is what everyone was expecting.
