The career comeback by Johnny Depp got a big boost over the summer when Ti West’s Ebenezer was introduced to the Comic-Con crowd. Now Paramount Pictures has released a full trailer for the holiday film, which promises to be anything but a straight-forward take on A Christmas Carol. Who wants another one of those, anyway?
It’s clear based on the new footage and all that we’ve seen previously, that West clearly sees the story of A Christmas Carol as less of a family-friendly holiday favorite, and more like a ghost story and Gothic fantasy.
This should give Depp the chance to have one of the richest performances he’s had in years, creating a Scrooge who is considerably more fleshed out than just a penny-pinching old miser. The tagline says it all: “The name you know, the story you don’t.”
Also in the cast are Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit, Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, plus Daisy Ridley, Andrea Riseborough, Tramell Tillman, Sam Claflin, and Ellie Bamber.
Ebenezer hits theaters on November 13th.
