‘Steps’ Teaser’: Ali Wong, Stephanie Hsu, And Amanda Seyfried Voice Netflix’s Fractured Cinderella Fairy Tale

We’ve seen a few reimaginings of the Cinderella story in recent years, including The Ugly Stepsister, which offers a more sympathetic take on her “evil” stepsisters. Steps, the upcoming Netflix animated film from directors Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, also puts Cinderella’s siblings in the spotlight. Netflix Animation Studios’ first end-to-end feature is a fractured fairy tale conceived by comedic duo Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, better known as Garfunkel & Oates.

Ali Wong and Stephanie Hsu voice Cinderella’s maligned stepsisters who are sick of living in her shadow. So when one steals the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand and busts up the Royal Ball, it changes everything we know about the Cinderella story and allows the kingdom to fall under tyrannical rule. The only way to fix things is to team up with Cinderella, voiced by Amanda Seyfried.

Joining Wong, Hsu, and Seyfried in the voice cast are Bette Midler, Nikki Glaser, Peter Dinklage, and WWE superstar Damian Priest. Wow, I had no idea the “Archer of Infamy” was in this. Pretty cool.

SYNOPSIS: “Sick of living in Cinderella’s shadow, Lilith (Wong) steals the Fairy Godmother (Midler)’s magic wand and hijacks the Royal Ball with her sister Margot (Hsu), breaking the Cinderella story as we know it and dooming the kingdom to the tyrannical rule of Priscilla (Glaser), a villainous schemer who swoops in and snatches the throne. Now, Lilith must team up with Cinderella (Seyfried) to fight biker trolls, outrun evil henchmen and escape the Screaming Woods on an epic quest to save the kingdom, but most importantly, their relationship.”

Steps hits Netflix on November 20th, just in time for Thanksgiving. It joins a packed lineup of animation for the streamer, including Brad Bird’s anticipated Ray Gunn, and In Waves, which I heard nothing but soaring reviews about at TIFF.
