The ensemble coming together for Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie’s Ocean’s Eleven prequel is shaping up to be one of the best. That’s saying something if you look at the A-list cast of Steven Soderbergh’s films, or even Ocean’s Eight. THR reports the latest to join Ocean’s include Vicky Krieps, Omar Sy, George MacKay, and Lauren Ridloff.
Krieps, Sy, MacKay, and Ridloff join Cooper, Robbie, Wagner Moura, Monica Barbaro, and Josh Gad. Cooper rewrote Carrie Solomon’s screenplay, and will direct, star, and produce, as well.
While plot details are officially under wraps, it’s expected that the film will leave the confines of Las Vegas and head to Europe for a 1960s caper with Cooper and Robbie as the thieving parents of Danny Ocean, the character played by George Clooney in three Ocean’s movies, and Debbie Ocean, originally played by Sandra Bullock in Ocean’s Eight. The backdrop is the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix, with Moura expected to be the villain.
Krieps is best known for her performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread, but I always champion her terrific role in Viggo Mortensen’s The Dead Don’t Hurt. Sy starred in one of the biggest international comedies, The Intouchables, as well as X-Men: Days of Future Past. MacKay broke out in 2019 with Sam Mendes’ 1917, and can be seen in theaters right now in Rose of Nevada. Ridloff is a deaf actress known for The Walking Dead, Sound of Metal, and Marvel’s Eternals.
Production is gearing up to shoot soon in Paris with a budget of around $100M.
