Universal Pictures and Illumination have big aspirations for Not Alone, an original sci-fi animated film they hope will stand alongside blockbusters franchises Despicable Me, Minions, The Secret Lives of Pets, and more. The film features 4-time Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet, voicing his first full-length animated feature, alongside Grammy and Emmy nominee Selena Gomez.
In Not Alone, Chalamet and Gomez play an introverted rocket mechanic and an astro-botanist, respectively, who are working together on the launch of the first plant-fueled rocket. There’s immediate chemistry between the two, but they are both awkward at romance. When a trio of aliens on the run crash in Joe’s house, the extraterrestrials realize the rocket could be their best ticket home.
Joining Chalamet and Gomez in the voice cast are Brett Goldstein, Rob Brydon, Jamie Demetriou, Diane Morgan, Allison Janney, and Lamorne Morris.
The film is directed by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val. Guillon previously co-directed Despicable Me 3, but all three are Illumination vets involved with multiple hit films.
Not Alone opens in theaters in April 2027.
