Prime Video’s inaugural Obsessed Fest, a fan event celebrating young adult storytelling as part of its Obsession Is In Session initiative, has been the source of a lot of debuts, including the trailer for shark flick The Devil’s Mouth. Very much fitting in with the theme is the debut trailer for rom-com The Love Hypothesis, starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman in an adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling book.
Love causes a bunch of smart people to do dumb things in The Love Hypothesis, where Reinhart plays PhD student Olive, who impulsively kisses Dr. Carlsen, played by Bateman, to convince her best friend Ahn, played by Rachel Marsh, that she’s dating someone. Why? To convince Ahn that it’s okay to pursue Olive’s actual crush, Jeremy, played by The White Lotus actor Nicholas Duvernay.
This impulsive act by Olive spirals into, what else, a fake relationship that they must keep going, until the lines starred to get blurred and people start catching feelings.
The film is directed by Claire Scanlon, best known for The People We Hate at the Wedding.
Also in the cast are Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushan.
The Love Hypothesis streams to Prime Video on September 23rd.
