This news is almost too stupid, and the write-up by Deadline reads like it was dictated to them by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. After years of making bad blockbuster Transformer flicks for Universal Pictures, the two are coming back together for a film based on Operation Epic Fury and the “true” events behind the rescue of two downed pilots during Donald Trump’s illegal Iran War.
Of course, it’s Michael Bay behind this. He’s always been a jingoistic, pro-military kinda guy. You could see it in the Transformers movies, as well as in his ridiculous Pearl Harbor, and most prominently, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, which helped the GOP fan the phony flames of scandal for years.
In fact, the film will be based on an upcoming book by Mitchell Zuckoff, who penned the book 13 Hours was adapted from.
According to the report, the film will “chronicle the extraordinary heroism of the two U.S. warfighters rescued after their F-15E Strike Eagle was downed in Iran” in April 2026.
In a statement, Bay said : “I’ve had an amazing partnership over my 30-year career working with the Department of War and amazing U.S. military members. In my film 13 Hours, no rescue force answered the call for help. This film is about everyone who answered the call in one of the most complex, intricate and high-stakes operations in recent history. It celebrates the true heroism and unwavering dedication of our service members.”
Bay is being a total tool here because he knows it’s NOT the Department of War, but the Department of Defense, no matter what Pete Kegbreath says.
I’m inclined not to believe the rescue story at all, because our government has a history of lying about heroic feats on the battlefield. All I need to do is point to the stories fabricated around the death of Pat Tillman, and the rescue of Jessica Lynch. But more importantly, Trump can’t tell the truth about anything and lies about the Iran War daily. The pilot rescue story was almost certainly glossed up to cover for our military bombing an all-girls’ school, killing nearly 200 children.
No thank you to every bit of this project.
