Eli Roth, the horror maestro known for Cabin Fever, Hostel, and Knock Knock, has made a couple of odd diversions lately. Remember fantasy film The House with the Clock in Its Walls? Or that atrocious video game movie Borderlands? Fortunately, Roth is back where he belongs and serving up a heaping sundae of slasher horror with Ice Cream Man, which Roth’s The Horror Section label is debuting the trailer today.
Produced, directed, and co-written by Roth alongside Noah Belson, the film takes place in the sunny, idyllic suburban town of Bayleen Bay. While all looks well, things get nasty when the kids suddenly turn violent thanks to an ice cream man’s sweet treats.
Orphan Black actor Ari Millen plays the grinning Ice Cream Man, who parents should definitely keep their kids away from. Also in the cast are Benjamin Byron Davis, Karen Cliche, Dylan Hawco, Sarah Abbott, Shiloh O’Reilly, Kiori Mirza Waldman, Charlie Zeltzer, and Charlie Storey.
Interestingly, the score features brand new music by Snoop Dogg alongside Brandon Roberts. Another rapper, the legendary Nas, is an exec-producer through The Horror Section’s strategic partnership with Mass Appeal.
Roth turned to directing Ice Cream Man when production was delayed on his sequel to Thanksgiving. Hopefully, now that this is done, he can return to that because I definitely want more of that holiday madness.
Ice Cream Man hits theaters on August 7th.
