Stephen King’s ‘The Mist’ Is Getting A Remake From Mike Flanagan

Mike Flanagan working on yet another Stephen King adaptation? Not a shock. That he’s set to write, direct, and produce a new version of The Mist, on the other hand, is a bit surprising.

Deadline reports Flanagan will tackle The Mist as his latest King project, following Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game, and Life of Chuck. He also has a Carrie series in the works for Prime Video.

The Mist is based on King’s 1980 novella, about a Maine town that is shrouded in a mysterious fog that contains deadly monsters. A group of people are trapped in a convenience store, where paranoia and fear take root, sparking extreme responses.

A 2007 film by Frank Darabont is considered a cult classic for a reason. Thomas Jane is fantastic as the Dad trying to keep his family safe, only to be driven to make some truly terrible choices. A short-lived 10-episode series version aired on Spike TV in 2017, but it wasn’t very good and Flanagan is the right man to give The Mist another go.

That said, there’s no reason to remake The Mist, which is great, when there are so many awful King adaptations out there.
