In Hollywood, everyone wants to look young forever. It’s essential to the line of work. In the DC Universe film Clayface, Matt Hagen gets the plastic surgery from Hell, one that we know will turn him into a monster. The trailer has finally arrived for the DCU body horror, starring Tom Rhys Harries as the popular Batvillain in his first solo movie.
Directed by James Watkins, Clayface bears almost no resemblance to a superhero movie, which is exactly as it should be. Honestly, after the failure of Supergirl, doing something completely different might be what the doctor ordered. Instead, the film resembles a classic Cronenberg-esque tale of tragedy and transformation.
Also in the cast are Naomi Ackie as Dr. Caitlin Corr, the fringe scientist who performs the procedure on Matt. Max Minghella plays Gotham City police detective John Pearlman. Also in the cast are Eddie Marsan, David Dencik, and Nancy Carroll.
The script is by horror maestro Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. This version of Clayface has already been seen in the DCU, as well, appearing in James Gunn’s animated Creature Commandos series.
Clayface opens in theaters on October 21st, just in time for Halloween. Looks damn good if you ask me.
