You might think The Transporter or The Beekeeper were the roles Jason Statham was born to play. But nah, that’s not it. The role Jason Statham was born to play was…Jason Statham. The action star is set to reunite with director David Leitch in the meta action-comedy Jason Statham Stole My Bike, playing himself, naturally.
Deadline doesn’t have any info on the plot, but do we really need it? Sounds like it’s right there in the title. Statham steals someone’s bike, somebody wants it bike, might have to fight the action star who notoriously doesn’t take a lot of punishment on screen. Should be hella fun!
The big news here is the reunion of Statham and Leitch, who worked together on Hobbs & Shaw, a massive spinoff of the blockbuster Fast & Furious franchise. Will this new film be quite that big? Probably not, the budget is hovering around $80M, which is pretty big for an indie. We’ll see if it can get that while being sold on the European Film Market.
Leitch’s track record in this genre is solid: Co-directing John Wick, then going solo on Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, The Fall Guy, and Bullet Train. His next film, How to Rob a Bank, stars Nicholas Hoult and arrives in September.
