A24’s dark comedy The Masque of the Red Death recently got a lot more eyes on it when Oscar-winning Anora lead Mikey Madison took over from Sydney Sweeney. Now, Madison is being joined by a top actress on the world stage, French actress Léa Seydoux.
Deadline reports Seydoux is joining Madison in The Masque of the Red Death, a new revisionist take on the Edgar Allan Poe story about “Prince Prospero, who retreats with a group of nobles into a fortified abbey as a deadly plague ravages the countryside. To distract themselves, the elites host an elaborate masked ball, but as the night progresses, an unsettling presence disrupts the celebration, forcing the guests to confront the reality they believed they had shut out.”
Madison is expected to play twins, one a long-lost sibling who hides among the lower class. It’s unclear what Seydoux’s role will be.
The film is from writer/director Charlie Polinger, who is coming off the buzzy psychological thriller, The Plague.
While it may seem that we haven’t seen anything from French superstar Lea Seydoux in a while, she’s actually been pretty busy. She recently starred in the award-winning film Silent Friend, which premiered at Venice, and has the Zellner Brothers’ Alpha Gang coming up later this year. She also spent quite a lot of time shooting Hideo Kojima’s video game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
