Released five years ago, Greenland was one of the many cinematic casualties of the pandemic. A damn shame because I personally think it was the best disaster movie to arrive in ages, presenting a believable scenario if the planet were under threat of an apocalyptic comet strike. Hopefully, the sequel, Greenland 2: Migration, will get the theatrical love its predecessor deserved.
Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin are back as the Garritys, with Roman Griffin Davis joining the cast as their son. The sequel finds them leaving the relative safety of the bunker to brave a broken, devastated world. As seen in the latest trailer (released less than a month since the last one, which concerns me greatly), the bunker may have looked like a sanctuary in the previous movie, but it seems more like a holding cell now.
SYNOPSIS: In the aftermath of a comet strike that decimated most of the Earth, GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION follows the Garrity family (Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffin Davis) as they’re forced to leave the safety of their bunker in Greenland to traverse a shattered world in search of a new home.
Behind the camera is Ric Roman Waugh. Together, he and Butler have done some of their best work on Greenland, Kandahar, and Angel Has Fallen. Waugh actually has another movie opening this month, Shelter, starring Jason Statham. When do we get the Butler/Statham teamup flick directing by Waugh?
Greenland 2: Migration opens January 9th from Lionsgate.
