Gunslingers is the latest movie set in the Wild West, and surprisingly, the biggest name isn’t playing the leading role. Stephen Dorff, who once starred in Blade, put on a showstopping performance, and if you’re a fan of Western movies, it’s one you don’t want to miss out on.
In the movie, Dorf plays Thomas Keller, who is wanted for killing a member of the Rockefeller clan. Four years later he escapes to Kentucky, to a town that is made up of criminals. The town has a system where people are executed to appease the public, but in reality, the whole thing is faked, and people can use the town as one big hideout and a chance to start over.
Gunslingers and the Rise of Modern Westerns
Interestingly, Gunslingers isn’t the only Western movie that’s come out recently. Horizon: An American Saga starred Kevin Costner and was a huge success, with Western fans eagerly awaiting the drop of the third movie. The movie received lukewarm reviews at first, but as fans really spent time with the concept and the slower-paced storyline, reviews picked up, and people hailed it as an epic.
Kevin Costner also has a major role in the TV show Yellowstone, which has already led to multiple spinoffs. Interestingly, we are also seeing a rise in the Western theme outside of cinema. Many noteworthy books of 2025 are Western-themed and include The Keys to the Kingdom, The Apache Kid Escapes, and A Brother’s Vengeance.

Exploring the Plot of Gunslingers
The plot of Gunslingers is remarkably unique. For Thomas, it doesn’t take a lot of time for people to find him. Heather Graham plays a woman who is desperately looking for Thomas, although we don’t know why. You also have his brother, who is played by Jeremy Kent Jackson. He’s presumed dead, but has the option to turn in Thomas for a $100,000 bounty.
With Robert also hunting Thomas, and 100 men in his posse, it’s safe to say that Gunslingers isn’t your traditional Western movie. It’s about outlaws banding together to claim a bounty, and at the same time, uniting to fend off invaders so they can save their own skins. Even though Gunslingers did have a limited budget, the concept alone is great, and the cast leaves nothing to be desired.
