It was something of a surprise in February 2024 when we learned Tom Cruise would be starring in a black comedy from director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. We know Cruise is a funny guy, but action has been his favored genre of late. The project has been kept under lock and key ever since, but now we know the title is Digger, and there’s also an odd new teaser.
Described as “a comedy of catastrophic proportion”, Digger stars Cruise as Digger Rockwell. The footage doesn’t reveal much other than Cruise in silhouette, sporting a comically large nose, cowboy boots, and a shovel, dancing along the LA boardwalk and in a warehouse. What the Hell is this thing supposed to be, anyway?
Cruise is surrounded by a talented ensemble that includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, and Pip Torrens. Inarritu wrote the screenplay with Sabina Berman, Alexander Delinaris Jr., and Nicolás Giacobone.
Warner Bros. will release Digger in theaters on October 2nd 2026, so quite a wait for this one.
