Pixar has Toy Story 5 arriving in 2026, but it can’t survive only with established brands. There needs to be some fresh franchise blood, and Hoppers, which sounds like a comedic take on James Cameron’s Avatar, could be just what the studio is looking for.
Hoppers centers on a world where scientists have learned how to “hop” a human consciousness into an artificial animal form so it can live and communicate with other animals. It’s perfect for animal lover Mabel, who hops into a robotic beaver and helps take on a destructive construction company.
Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, and Jon Hamm lead the voice cast, joined by new additions Meryl Streep, Dave Franco, Kathy Najimy, Eduardo Franco, Melissa Villasenor, Ego Nwodim, Vanessa Bayer, Sam Richardson, and Aparna Nancherla.
Daniel Chong wrote and directed Hoppers, based on an original idea he’d been developing since 2020. Chong is known for the Cartoon Network animated series and feature film We Bare Bears.
SYNOPSIS: After a group of scientists invent a way to “hop” human minds into lifelike robotic animal bodies, a young adult named Mabel uses their technology to embody a robotic beaver and thwart a construction company’s plot to destroy the local animal habitat.
Pixar will release Hoppers in theaters on March 6th 2026.
